Joint InversionEM data, like all geophysical data, are inherently non-unique. Thus, an inversion, in which an earth model is derived in an iterative process, may yield a variety or a group of earth models with responses that fit the observed data equally well. A new, very promising approach, which is subject to vigorous research, is to reduce the degree of non-uniqueness through a joint inversion. Here, various geophysical data sets, which contain common or complementary information about the earth, are inverted simultaneously. First results of a joint MT, seismic and gravity data inversion related to an oil exploration problem have been very promising and we will extend the joint inversion process to seismic, gravity and MT data gathered on the subduction zone. |
