Chaitén Volcano

in Southern Chile. Chaitén produced an explosive eruption of VEI 4 in 2008, and still shows strong degassing from the dome growing inside the crater. Photos taken from the North in Nov. 2010.

 


Hornopirén Volcano

in Southern Chile - towering over the township of Hornopiren.

 

Crater basalt volcanic field

one of the intraplate volcanic fields in Argentina / Northern Patagonia comprises several cinder cones in addition to the extensive lava flows.
