Heidi joined the SFB 574 in 2001, her research has been focused on volatile degassing of explosive eruptions and the role of volatiles in the generation of mafic arc magmas since. From 2001 to 2005 she belonged to subproject C4 as a PhD student, working mainly on the mafic plinian Fontana eruption in Nicaragua, dealing with its physical eruptions dynamics and volatile chemistry via melt inclusion studies. Moreover, she was involved in establishing the tephrostratigraphic framework in Nicaragua from the late-Pleistocene to recent, and in assessing hazards emerging from large plinian eruptions. Now she is a postdoc researcher in subproject C2, with a major focus on magmatic volatiles in primitive melts, their effect on melt generation, their inventory and turnover in relation to the tectonic setting.
